  1. A word about The Raggered Trousered Philanthropists... it was by far the best production that I've seen to date BUT it still doesn't work. Let's face it; novels are novels and plays are plays and never the twain shall intermarry with any hope of a happy-ever-after outcome. TRTP is too expansive to be reduced to ninety minutes and as always I left the theatre with a sense of dis-satisfaction... Dear old Robert would be spinning in his martyrs' grave...

  2. We've got tickets for next Monday for RTP :-) (Not 'quite' a millionaire yet sister ;-) XXX

  3. Back again. I have discovered your erbacce fotolog. Hadn't realised you had published so many books. So by now you must be a millionaire Alan? Ha ha ha Take care (Oh and try to get to see RTP at the Everyman if u havent already been; superb production) XXXXXXXXXX

  8. Not too difficult a choice sister; Tory-Tory, Labour-Tory or Liberal-Tory... though as usual I think I'll vote for 'Bobby Sands MP; murdered by the Government' XXX

  9. I have a sneaking feeling that u r not going to vote Conservative in the up and coming elections Mr C? :-)

  10. Not an 'idiot' Si; and we DO like your work. Good luck in the competition... and thanks for the kind words :-) Alan

  11. Hi Alan,

I've spent some time wondering round your excellent website. Thought I'd learn a bit about the person I'd made a fool of myself in front of. I like the poems very much. The love-poem made me smile as I was listening to that track on the playlist. The links are really useful as well and I read your CV. I shall return here.

Sorry again for being an idiot.

    Cheers

    Si

  12. Thank you :-) Delighted you liked the poems :-)

  13. You are a good writer and i hav enjoyed your site. I will return to read some more especially of your poetry :-)

  14. Hy Will; Ringo is only slightly less of a nightmare than Mr Motion; an inane and pointless poet... a bit like the new Laureate Miss Duffer ;-)

  15. I didn't need to Google you Joie; I've read a lot of your work and would be happy to have some stuff from you with a view to publishing :-)

  16. Hy Laura; group meets 6.30 first Tuesday each month; see you there :-)

  17. Really liked your work. But, rather alarmingly when I read your work, I hear Ringo Starr in my head. I presume mr. Motion isn't one of you biggest fans!

  28. That's for getting back to my submission so quick.

I came to see who you were and I really appreciate your work.

  29. Hy Tom. YES, totally agree, a fine piece of writing, chokes me up each time I read it. Thanks for stopping by :-)

  30. Hello

I came here by a strange and unforeseen route. Last week I was with my wife in the Magdala pub in Hampstead - infamous as the scene of the Ruth Ellis shooting. I had long been looking for a copy of the Cassandra article 'The Woman who hangs Today' - it is, for my money, one of the great pieces of writing in journalism.

I found it as one of your blogs from Dec 2006 - I just want to say thanks for posting this. It's a truly damning indictment of the established system as prevailed in 1950s Britain - it's a beautifully written piece, just a pity that it ultimately fell on deaf ears.

    Best wishes.

    Tom Cook (Fife Scotland)

  31. Hy Sarah; yep we had a good time :-) Would you believe we actually got up and began dancing in the aisles? Ha ha ha If it comes to Liverpool I'll take you to see it. Promise.

  51. Hy Charcois, how are things in Johannesburg? I'm enjoying reading your poems :-)

  52. Whilst exceptionally new to your work , this site etc I am most definitely intrigued to discover more and immerse myself in what advice and knowledge you have to offer.

My day has taken a surprisingly interesting turn from the time I submitted some of my work till now, where I am thoroughly enjoying your thoughts and opinions.

    Definitely worth my 'error' earlier....

  56. Just heard about your victory over JMU!!! WOW! David and Goliath. You are as tenacious as that proverbial bull-dog. I'll be up on the Wirral end of this month and I'll phone you; you can take me for a drink with your new-found wealth ;-) ShellX

  57. Ah that's sweet; thanks Jonathan, glad you enjoyed it :-) Alan

  58. I read your story, The Heart in the Heartless World. It is very well constructed. Concise. Not a single word too many. Made me smile too. I am book-marking your page to read the others. Thanks for the trip.

  59. You are correct Rachel; it's called 'possessing a brain'... you see we are all biased, we all have prejudices, the thing is to understand them and relish them :-) Do stop by again :-)

  60. Your reviews are very biased Mr Corkish!

  61. Thanks for the comments Degsy; not seen you at DGPS for a while?

  62. great site mate ! love the poetry and the rants ! can't agree with the cats and dogs thing, been savaged by some bad pussies !! as asocialist and trade union activist couldn't agree more about the so called Labour party ! the bi polar thing is very tue. but the solder thing sort of see your point but my mum and dad both served in WWII and fort for freedom of a sort and was a solder myself for a while ! did get into trouble for my political views though ! hehehe you must be proud to have been a stoker ! a truely honerable working class trade !! nice arse by the way !

  66. Hi Alan!

Taking a new tour of your superb website. I never tire of reading your poems.

You've lost the link to my website? Alan ...!!! You put me on your wall of fame, and unless you've removed me, I'm still there. I'll go and check, but just in case:

    http://miadora50.piczo.com

There is a small publishing house in Norway would is interested in my poems and has asked me to send 40-50 to see if they are worth publishing. Hmmm I wonder ...

    Take care!

    Christine

  67. Ah how such decorum inhibits ha ha ha (When (if) you lose your decorum; get someone to take a photo; I'll find a place on my site for it :-)

  68. I have chanced upon all of this....

Had I no decorum, I would have ran out into my tree lined, suffocating, 1930's semis road full of denial and 'niceness' , put my effing knickers on my head and shouted 'LISTEN TO THIS'

    But I didn't...

One day , one day I will speak out and I won't ever stop.

Great site -vastly entertaining and thought provoking.

  69. Sorry about that Tux; have you tried placing one finger underneath each word then pronouncing it slowly?

  70. Cant understand most of them supposed poems.

  71. Beautiful Lou :-) I somehow knew you'd remember even though there are miles between us :-) XXX

  72. I would send you a chocolate and a card, but I ate them. Yes, even the card. Happy Valentine's day, Alan!

  81. Just finished reading 'Through a glass dark.

An insight in survival and the darkest of taboos:

    mental illness- Bipolar disorder.

Portrayed with utter humanity and humour.

I await the conventional biography from an

    unconventional life.

    Great, fantastic read.

    Roger.

  82. From Texas?

  83. Hi Alan, hope you can remember this Texas boy, I sure could learn something from you, in how to recite a poem...........you my friend take the cake....Roland.....

  84. Maybe we do what we do, we are as we are; due entirely to mistakes we made in the past? People change; all things are in constant motion...

  85. Hullo Big Al. Are you going to the Casa this evening? Richie, Sal and me will be there about 8.30. Long time no see :-) XXXXX

  86. Hi Alan!

  92. Alan---Trying to figure what my cost wold be in American dollars and how many poems would be included. David McLean has offered to review it. IO am excited , will get back with you.

  93. I'm here again on a visit to tell you I haven't forgotten you, to tell you that I'm fed up with work and intend to retire in the course of this year and I'll be able to explore much more of your writings. Is there more to come?

Have a very rewarding week, Alan!

  94. hi Alan, when are you going to update your blog?

    xxxSuzy

  95. I enjoyed the 01Prelude poetry on your site

The essence and majestic with shades of light

while musing the rich tapestry of life

Amidst my anguish and my holy veil of strife

The secret is in the keys of Peter

to administer out the depth of metre

I am impressed in angelic awe

Perhaps you can supply, a wee bit more

  96. Hi Alan! Back, drawn to this site like a fly to honey. I always find something interesting. Take care!

  97. Doesn't take much to push your buttons, does it? Take a chill pill! Welbutrin is pretty good. That's what the doc gives me. Accept my apology? I have bipolar syndrom as well.

  98. Reading, reading - and your blog on another website. There's a lot to absorb, and it's absorbing stuff, too. But now, I HAVE to work. I don't even have time to "play" with the newest photos of Oslo, Drammen and Kongsberg which I took 2 weeks ago. Have a rewarding week !

  99. Hello Alan! Thanks for visiting my site. Guestbook next time? Today, I read "Kathy". I loved it. It describes so many things at the same time that even Kathy seems to be forgotten - although it's her story - until I realized that Kathy, without being central, was ... everywhere. Strange! How did you manage that?

  100. I too have been visiting your site Christine :-) Great fun :-)

Use the drop-down menu on the left to tour the site and the jukebox to listen to music tracks or to halt sound.

Enjoy the trip!
